Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. How far are you from the beach?

About .5 miles "as the crow flies," from the water. We are about 4 miles from Burnt Mill Beach Club and 4-5 miles from Tavern Bay Beach Club.

2. What amenities do the beach clubs offer?

Tavern Bay Beach Club: Sandy beach, large roped off swim area, swing set & play equipment, restrooms, parking, picnic tables, some shade, snack bar ($2 hot dogs, nachos, $1 ice cream, soda, candy from 10 cents to $1). There are a limited number of lounge chairs if you're early. Can get windy, this is a great beach on hot days. See photos on Local Information Page. You may bring inflatable toys. This beach is more fun for teens.

Burnt Mill Beach Club: Sandy beach, roped off swim area, swing set, play equipment, restrooms, parking very close to sandy area, picnic tables, shade trees, attendant who can sell you snacks from a refrigerator. There are a limited number of lounge chairs if you're early. On a cool day, this is a warmer beach and less windy than Tavern Bay. See photos on Local Information Page. You may bring inflatable toys. This beach is more fun for small children, and has more shade.

3. Can we bring our own boat?

No, only boats registered to homeowners may be used on Lake Arrowhead, including kayaks. No jetskis are permitted at all on Lake Arrowhead.

4. How quiet is it at the home?

Yes, our home is located on an extremely quiet street with no access to other streets. We ask that you be very quiet and respectful our our full time neighbors. Voices and noise travel VERY far in the forest!

5. How many stairs are there?

This home has level entry and a parking deck with level entry. There is one flight of stairs to the two downstairs bedrooms. There is a half bath on the main floor. Someone who does not do stairs well, could stay on the futon in the main floor's game room, but would need to go downstairs for shower/bath.

6. What makes Lake Arrowhead different from Big Bear?

  • Big Bear is a longer, windier drive from Los Angeles and Orange County if you tend to have motion sickness.
  • Most of the drive to Lake Arrowhead is a 4 lane 55 mph drive. The Drive to Big Bear from the bottom of the mountain is about an hour.
  • Big Bear is a city in the mountains. Lake Arrowhead is a smaller, more "mountainy" community with no signals and no 4-lane roads.
  • Big Bear has more shopping opportunities, but Lake Arrowhead is known for the outlet center and local antiqueing.
  • Lake Arrowhead is a private lake, open only to homeowners and their guests, while Big Bear is a public lake open to anyone.
  • Lake Arrowhead has a higher median income.
  • Lake Arrowhead is 20 minutes from skiing, Big Bear is much closer.
  • Big Bear is a higher elevation, usually meaning more snow, more chain requirements in the winter, and because of the topography, Big Bear seems to have greater temperature extremes--hotter in summer and colder in winter. This is not an issue when it comes to snow for skiing at Snow Valley since they usually begin snowmaking in November.
  • While Big Bear is only 30 miles from Lake Arrowhead, it is usually a 1 hour drive.

7. Where can we take our jet skis and boat?

You can jet ski and boat on Silverwood Lake (about 15-18 miles) or Big Bear (about an hour).

Our parking deck will only allow two cars, or a car-sized trailer and the car pulling it. No on-street parking is permitted. 2-car limit.

8. Can we rent a boat somewhere?

Yes!

a) You can charter a boat through MacKenzie Water Ski School (see Info page for more information, including link and phone number). We have had guests use them and enjoy their adventure.

b) You can take a sight-seeing ride on the Lake Arrowhead Queen--buy tickets at LeRoy's on the water in the Village.

c) You can rent a rowboat at Lake Gregory Regional Park (and a battery-powered motor at additional cost)

9. Can we have an online map link?

Some of the on-line maps (such as Google) are based on 15-year-old maps! E-mail me for a link that is relatively decent.

10. My pets are well-behaved, can we please bring them?

At this time, we do not allow any pets, no exceptions. This was a difficult decision, but too many of our friends told us they could not stay in our home if we allowed pets. We have a dear friend who is a vet at Rim Forest Animal Hospital who will board your pet if you desire. We are considering the purchase of another vacation home that will accept pets. Please don't sneak your perfect pet into our home--it is not an issue of damage as most pets who travel with their owners are wonderful--it's allergies! Having pets on the premises are grounds for eviction, and total loss of security deposit and remaining nights. If you'd like to bring your pets along, check our pet-friendly rental, TheLakeEscape.com. Cedarstone had pets in the home before we purchased it, so if you are VERY sensitive to animals, you should visit our TreehouseEscape.com
